Haitian-Born Actor Jimmy Jean-Louis is National Spokesperson National Caribbean American Heritage Month


The Institute of Caribbean Studies-DC (ICS) is pleased to announce that Actor Jimmy Jean-Louis has agreed to serve as national spokesperson for the 5th commemorative celebrations of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month.

Most recently known for his role as “The Haitian” on NBC’s Heroes, Jean-Louis is a rags to riches story of a child who grew up in the slums of Port Au Prince, Haiti until age 12, becomes a Hollywood celebrity and shifts his focus from his acting career to help rebuild his homeland ravaged by the 7.0 earthquake on January 12, 2010.

Lili Bernard is Cuban-born. A Los Angeles-based, multimedia fine artist and actress, Lili’s artwork explores her Indigenous-Afro-Caribbean heritage. Having graduated high school from The American School in Japan , Lili studied fine arts and theatre at Cornell University and holds a B.A. in German from City University of New York. She also studied theatre in New York City under Sonia Moore and at Herbert Berghof Studio.
